The FBI has provided an update on the New Year's Day attack in New Orleans, revealing new information about the attacker's online search history and releasing a photo of him in the city weeks before the rampage.
The suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, used the internet to search for information on accessing balconies on Bourbon Street, Mardi Gras, and shootings in New Orleans prior to the attack. He also searched for information about the vehicle attack on a Christmas market in Germany just days before the New Orleans attack.
Jabbar became a more devout Muslim in 2022 and began isolating himself from society. Federal officials have called the attack an act of terrorism, saying that Jabbar was an Army veteran who had declared support for ISIS.
The FBI has also released more details on Jabbar's visits to New Orleans before the attack. He took a train from Houston to New Orleans on November 10th and returned to Texas that evening on a bus. The FBI released an image of Jabbar walking with a backpack in New Orleans on that date.
Jabbar looked at an apartment for rent on Orleans Street and applied to rent it, but later changed his mind.

The fact that he became more religious and isolated himself is concerning. Was this a radicalization tactic? 🤔

We need stricter gun laws. This could have been prevented if he didn't have access to a weapon. ✊
