Jayde Riviere, a fullback from Pickering, Ontario, has secured a new contract with Manchester United that lasts until June 2028, and includes an option for an additional year. The 23-year-old athlete has made 32 appearances for the Women’s Super League team since her arrival in 2023. Matt Johnson, the interim head of women’s football at Manchester United, spoke highly of Riviere, calling her an ambitious and talented young player with the potential to reach world-class levels. He expressed enthusiasm for her continued development within the club.
Currently, Manchester United sits in fourth place in the competitive 12-team Women’s Super League with a record of 6 wins, 1 draw, and 3 losses. Riviere expressed her pride in being associated with Manchester United, stating that she feels honored every time she plays for the team. The victory in the FA Cup last season has given the team a glimpse of success, and Riviere is committed to striving for similar achievements in the future for the club's supporters.
Riviere's achievements in international competitions are also noteworthy; she was the second-youngest player on Canada's gold medal-winning team at the Tokyo Olympics, where she started in matches against Chile and Great Britain and played in the quarter-finals and finals. Making her senior international debut in 2017, she was selected for Canada's 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup roster at just 18 years old. Most recently, Riviere played all three of Canada’s matches in the 2023 World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand. Additionally, she has a background in collegiate soccer, having played for the University of Michigan.
