Emil Heineman, a forward for the Montreal Canadiens, has been injured in a pedestrian accident and will be sidelined for three to four weeks. The incident took place on Monday afternoon in Utah while the team was preparing for their upcoming game against the Utah Hockey Club.
The Canadiens reported that Heineman incurred an upper body injury, which has been confirmed by Marcus Isaksson, his agent, who mentioned that Heineman hurt his wrist when struck by a vehicle. According to the Salt Lake City police, they were alerted to a pedestrian collision at 2:55 p.m. on Monday, but initial searches for both the reporter and the pedestrian did not yield any results.
Eventually, police received relevant information from a nearby business, which helped them identify the involved parties, including the Canadiens’ player. While Heineman did not exhibit any serious injuries at the scene, he was attended to by the team doctors. The incident is currently under investigation by the Utah Highway Patrol, as the player was confirmed to be Heineman after police identified all involved individuals.
Heineman, who is 23 years old, is in his rookie season with the Canadiens, having scored 10 goals and provided seven assists across 41 games. The left-winger was acquired by Montreal from the Calgary Flames in a 2022 trade, which included Tyler Pitlick and draft picks in exchange for Tyler Toffoli. He was originally drafted in 2020 by the Florida Panthers, being selected in the second round as the 43rd overall pick.

This isn't good for the team's morale. Seemingly irresponsible.

Why was he even crossing the street? Athletes need to be more careful.

Accidents happen to all of us. Support for Heineman on this one.

Another athlete in the headlines for the wrong reasons. Disappointing.
