The Vancouver Whitecaps have appointed Jesper Sorensen as their new head coach ahead of the upcoming Major League Soccer season. The 51-year-old Dane joins the Whitecaps after a successful stint with Brondby IF in the Danish Superliga, where he served as head coach for two seasons following a two-and-a-half-year spell as assistant coach.
Sorensen also boasts experience as head coach of Denmark's under-21 national team, a role he held for over a year. Whitecaps sporting director Axel Schuster praised Sorensen's coaching style, highlighting the "well-balanced" nature of his teams, which combine "offensive creativity and defensive organization."
Prior to his coaching career, Sorensen enjoyed a distinguished playing career as a midfielder in Denmark's top league, amassing over 300 appearances. He takes over the reins from the outgoing Vanni Sartini, who was relieved of his duties in mid-November following a disappointing season that saw the Whitecaps finish with a 13-13-8 record and an early playoff exit at the hands of Los Angeles FC.

Does anyone even know much about this guy? I feel like we’re just hiring the next best option.

I hope he understands that MLS is not the Danish league. The challenges are completely different.

I just hope he’s not another coach who relies too much on tactics instead of connecting with the players.

A well-balanced team? That sounds nice, but I’d rather see a team that can actually win games.

Nice to see the Whitecaps making a bold decision! Let’s give him a chance to bring some fresh energy.
