As of Tuesday morning, the China Earthquake Networks Center has identified 3,614 aftershocks following the recent earthquake that struck Dingri county in Southwest China's Xizang autonomous region. Most of these aftershocks were relatively minor, with magnitudes under 3.0.
On Monday night, however, the region experienced two notable aftershocks measured at 4.9 and 5.0 in magnitude, which caused damage to several houses in the area. According to Tashi Dondrup, the head of Dingri county, no injuries or fatalities have been reported because residents had already moved to tents and prefab housing prior to these aftershocks.
The initial 6.8-magnitude earthquake that occurred on January 7 tragically resulted in the loss of 126 lives. Dingri is known as the northern base camp for Mount Qomolangma, the world's tallest mountain, and the local community has been under substantial strain due to these seismic events.

We will not be defined by this disaster. We will rise above it and build a better future for ourselves and generations to come.

How can these people rebuild their lives after losing so much? It's heartbreaking.

This is a nightmare scenario. I hope the government is doing everything they can to help.

Let's not lose sight of the positive even in the midst of tragedy. There's still so much to be grateful for.

Isn't Mount Qomolangma supposed to be dangerous enough? Now they have to deal with this too?

Is it safe to travel to this region now? I was planning a trip there but I'm not sure if I should go.

Although there's a long road ahead, seeing the community come together gives me hope for the future.
