According to an expert from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), there are currently no new infectious diseases emerging in China. All existing respiratory diseases are attributable to well-known pathogens. During a press conference held by the National Health Commission (NHC), research fellow Wang Liping pointed out that influenza remains the primary reason for patient visits to healthcare facilities for acute respiratory infections.
Wang explained that the intensity of influenza in most provinces remains at a moderate level. With the winter holidays approaching for middle and primary schools, a decrease in influenza activity is anticipated around mid to late January. The expert also addressed the human metapneumovirus (HMPV), stating that it has been present in humans for decades, and the increase in reported cases is largely due to improved detection techniques.
Despite an uptick in patients visiting fever clinics and emergency departments, these figures are lower than those recorded during the same timeframe last year. NHC official Gao Xinqiang mentioned that there has been no significant shortage of medical resources. Since October 2024, the NHC has collaborated with the China CDC and various authorities to ensure a steady and organized healthcare response through regular monitoring and resource mobilization.
In terms of influenza countermeasures, Wang noted that the dominant circulating strain is the H1N1 subtype. Antigenic analyses have shown that this year's vaccine is effective against this strain. Additionally, drug resistance studies have confirmed that the circulating influenza viruses remain sensitive to antiviral treatments, assuring their effectiveness. Wang concluded by recommending that anyone over six months old receive an annual influenza vaccination if there are no medical contraindications.

I appreciate the author's recommendation to get an annual influenza vaccination.

The H1N1 strain is deadly, and the vaccine isn't effective against it. This is a cover-up!

It's great that the circulating influenza virus is still responsive to antiviral treatments.

It's encouraging to hear that the HMPV is not a new virus and that there are existing methods of detection.

This is all about money. They want you to buy their expensive drugs and vaccines.
