Boniface Close to Return as Bayer Leverkusen Prepares for Clash Against Mainz

Bayer Leverkusen's striker Victor Boniface is anticipated to make his comeback soon, following a hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined for two months. Manager Xabi Alonso mentioned that Boniface could rejoin the squad possibly as early as next week, having previously secured eight goals in 15 matches this season before suffering the injury while on international duty with Nigeria.

During the previous season, Boniface was Leverkusen's top scorer, recording 14 goals in 23 league appearances, and played a key role in helping the team clinch its first Bundesliga title. In contrast, defender Jeanuel Belocian is still recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament tear, and forward Amine Adli is expected to be out until at least late January due to a fracture.

Alonso also reassured fans that Florian Wirtz would start against Mainz after having limited minutes in the last match due to an internal matter. Following a successful winning streak that has placed Leverkusen in second place in the league standings, the team is eager to maintain its momentum.

Leverkusen will face a demanding schedule ahead, with five matches planned over the next 15 days, including a Champions League match on January 21 against Atletico Madrid. The coach emphasized the importance of giving their all in the upcoming match against Mainz, who currently occupy fifth place in the league and boast their own winning streak. Alonso acknowledged Mainz's impressive form and tactical approach, highlighting the need for vigilance in the upcoming encounter. After facing Mainz, Leverkusen's next match will be against Borussia Moenchengladbach on Saturday.

Xabi Alonso needs to focus on overall tactics instead of putting all the pressure on a returning player.

Boniface had a great start, but can we really count on him after such a long injury layoff?

Let’s face it—if we lose against Mainz, it won’t matter if Boniface comes back.

Leverkusen will struggle against Mainz without a fully fit Boniface. Our bench is looking weak.

The team has been strong, but adding Boniface back into the mix is only going to make us more dangerous!

Why is everyone hyping Boniface? He'll need time to regain his full form after two months out!

Alonso knows what he’s doing. If he’s confident about Boniface’s return, then I am too!
