The Colorado Rapids Sign Michael Edwards to a New Contract
The Colorado Rapids have announced the signing of defender Michael Edwards to a new contract for the 2025 season, with a club option for 2026. This move signifies the Rapids' commitment to developing young talent within their organization.
Edwards, 24, made his Major League Soccer (MLS) debut in 2024 and has shown promising potential. He has contributed one goal in four appearances, including two starts.
"Michael is a player who has progressed through our system, gaining experience with both the First Team and Rapids 2, and we believe he has the qualities to contribute at a high level," said Rapids sporting director Fran Taylor in a news release. "Our hope is that Michael can take the next step in his career here in Colorado and become an important piece among our group of central defenders."
Edwards has also played a key role for Rapids 2 over the past three seasons, making 39 appearances in MLS NEXT Pro and contributing two goals and one assist. His experience in both the first team and reserve squad demonstrates his versatility and adaptability.
The Rapids are confident that Edwards will continue to develop and become a valuable asset to the team. They see him as a key piece in their defensive unit moving forward.

It’s about time we prioritized experienced players instead of rolling the dice on another untested talent.

How many young defenders have the Rapids signed only to see them fizzle out? I'm skeptical.

I’m not convinced Edwards is ready for the big leagues. He should earn his stripes before getting a full contract.

We are stuck in a loop of signing players based on hope rather than proven skills. Let’s do better!
