Two Polish Siblings Impressed by Beijing's Advanced Services for Tourists

Dagmara Paszkowska and her brother Norbert, two siblings from Poland, were pleasantly surprised by the advanced services offered to foreign tourists in Beijing during their recent four-day transit visit. They were particularly impressed by the diverse payment options, including cash, card, QR code scanning, and even facial recognition.

Their positive experience aligns with the city's recent initiative to improve the overall experience for foreign visitors. This initiative includes the launch of Beijing Service counters at both major airports, offering one-stop assistance with financial, communication, transportation, cultural, and tourism needs.

The counters also provide support with cash withdrawals using foreign bank cards, currency exchange, and downloading mobile payment apps. Additionally, visitors can purchase a Beijing Pass, a versatile transportation card offering access to public transportation in 300 cities and discounts in designated commercial, cultural, and tourism areas.

Beijing's Efforts to Enhance Tourist Experience

The city's efforts to enhance the tourist experience extend beyond payment options and transportation. To better introduce Beijing's rich cultural heritage, the city now offers free half-day trips to international transit passengers at Beijing Capital International Airport. These trips, organized by Trip.com, allow visitors to explore iconic landmarks like the Great Wall and the Temple of Heaven.

The extended visa-free policies have also contributed to a surge in international arrivals. With daily averages of 252 foreign nationals entering Beijing with a temporary 240-hour entry permit, the city witnessed a significant increase in inbound tourism in 2024.

The success of Beijing's visa-free policies has inspired other Chinese cities, such as Shanghai, to adopt similar initiatives. This has resulted in an influx of foreign visitors, particularly from South Korea, who are drawn to the city's modern atmosphere, affordable travel options, and delicious cuisine.
