Rep. Judy Chu on California Wildfires
The Eaton fire has devastated communities in my district. We are not out of the danger zone yet, but I urge residents to follow evacuation orders and stay safe. While there were initial water pressure issues, the fire department assures me there is enough water now.
Many residents are wondering about rebuilding their homes and businesses.
These communities must be rebuilt. We need resources for residents and businesses to recover. I've arranged for California Congress members to see the devastation firsthand so they understand the need for federal assistance.
Some Republicans are hesitant to provide aid without strings attached.
These wildfires are a non-partisan issue. We need to help thousands of people who lost everything. I've invited Speaker Johnson and President Trump to visit the area and witness the devastation.
What about accessing federal assistance?
FEMA is opening a local assistance center on Tuesday. People can also visit temporary locations at local libraries or sign up on Disasterassistance.gov. We encourage everyone to apply for assistance immediately.
Thank you, Congresswoman Chu. We wish you and your community the best of luck.

Providing aid with "no strings attached" might not be the most responsible approach. Oversight mechanisms are necessary to prevent misuse of funds.

While rebuilding homes is important, let's not forget the displaced wildlife and environmental damage. Recovery efforts should incorporate ecological restoration.

Focusing solely on aid ignores the need for preventative measures. What steps are being taken to mitigate future wildfire risks in these communities?

Rep. Chu, you mention long-term water management, but what about addressing the severe drought California faces? A holistic approach is necessary.

I agree with your emphasis on mental health support. The trauma caused by these wildfires needs dedicated attention and resources.
