The Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), a far-right political party in Germany, recently finalized its new manifesto ahead of the critical elections next month. The party's proposals include the controversial notion of "re-migration," which signals the potential for large-scale deportations of migrants if they gain power. This concept is deeply rooted in far-right ideology and gained considerable attention after a covert meeting involving right-wing extremists, neo-Nazis, and AfD officials was uncovered in late 2023, sparking nationwide protests.
The two-day convention held in Riesa was overshadowed by significant demonstrations, with over 10,000 people protesting against the AfD, which delayed the start of the event. A heavy police presence was deployed to manage the protests, leading to incidents of violence, including reports of a left-wing politician being assaulted by police. Recent polls indicate that the AfD's support has surged to 22%, positioning it just behind the CDU/CSU alliance, which has dropped to 30%. Meanwhile, the Social Democrats (SPD) reaffirmed Olaf Scholz as their main candidate, despite concerns over his leadership. The Green Party and other smaller parties also presented their platforms, with some at risk of failing to meet the electoral threshold.
During its convention, the AfD nominated co-leader Alice Weidel as its candidate for chancellor, with party members displaying placards endorsing her as a leader reminiscent of slogans from the Nazi period. The party’s manifesto includes proposals to abolish the euro, reintroduce military conscription, and overhaul education and media financing. There was also a contentious decision to dissolve the youth wing, Junge Alternative, known for its radical stance, which the party hopes to replace with a new organization.
Despite the AfD's rising popularity, mainstream parties have distanced themselves, ruling out any cooperation. The party has referred to a 'firewall' that it believes could be breached, similar to the political shifts occurring in neighboring countries. This recent support from influential figures, like Elon Musk, who claimed the AfD was vital for Germany’s future, has further fueled its confidence. Musk had a lengthy conversation with Weidel recently, discussing various topics, including a defense of her party's position on historical matters.
Additionally, the newly formed BSW party is gaining traction with proposals focused on withdrawing US military presence from Germany and opposing Ukraine's EU membership. Meanwhile, the CDU/CSU alliance, led by Friedrich Merz, is formulating strategies to boost its electoral prospects after recent declines in support, emphasizing an agenda to enhance Germany's economic performance by reforming welfare and prioritizing domestic security.

It’s alarming to see the AfD gaining traction. The fear-mongering tactics they use should be a wake-up call for all of us!

Looking forward to seeing change in Germany. The AfD is the only party willing to address the issues that matter.

The AfD's re-migration proposal is xenophobic and will only divide our society further. We need to promote inclusion, not exclusion!

The youth wing's dissolution is just a cover-up for the radical views they hold. We must reject all forms of extremism.

The heavy police presence and violent protests highlight the toxic environment fostered by the AfD. This party has no place in a democratic society.

No more hate! The only way forward is unity, and the AfD's policies threaten to unravel the fabric of our society.
