Ukraine Ready to Hand Over Captured North Korean Soldiers in Exchange for Ukrainians Held in Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Sunday, January 12th, that Ukraine is prepared to hand over captured North Korean soldiers to their leader, Kim Jong Un, in exchange for Ukrainian citizens held captive in Russia.
"In addition to the first captured soldiers from North Korea, there will undoubtedly be more," Zelenskyy stated on the social media platform X. "It's only a matter of time before our troops manage to capture others."
The announcement follows the capture of two North Korean soldiers by Ukrainian forces in Russia's Kursk region on Saturday. This marks the first time Ukraine has publicly acknowledged capturing North Korean soldiers alive since their involvement in the war began last autumn.
According to Ukrainian and Western assessments, approximately 11,000 troops from Russia's ally, North Korea, have been deployed to the Kursk region to support Moscow's forces. However, Russia has neither confirmed nor denied their presence.

This is simply appeasement. It won't stop the war, it will only embolden our enemies.

This sets a dangerous precedent for future conflicts. Other countries will see this and think they can get away with anything.

This is a betrayal of our values. We can't condone human rights abuses by making deals with dictators.

This is just giving Putin what he wants. He wants to destabilize Ukraine and draw us into a larger conflict.

Is Zelenskyy going to apologize to the Ukrainian families who lost loved ones to these North Korean soldiers?

We should focus on bringing our own citizens home, not getting involved with North Korea's dirty laundry.

We should be focusing on finding a peaceful resolution to the war, not making deals with warmongers.

This is a courageous decision by Zelenskyy. He is taking a risk, but it could pay off.

This shows that Zelenskyy is willing to be flexible and negotiate. That's what we need in a leader.

What about the Ukrainian soldiers captured by North Korea? Are they just forgotten? This deal is unfair and dangerous.

This deal could open up a dialogue with North Korea and lead to further cooperation in the future.

It's important to explore all options when it comes to bringing our people home.
