Biden and Netanyahu Discuss Gaza Hostage and Ceasefire Deal
US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke on Sunday, January 12th, regarding ongoing efforts to secure a hostage and ceasefire deal in Gaza before Biden leaves office on January 20th.
During their phone conversation, Biden emphasized the urgency of a ceasefire in Gaza and the return of hostages, alongside a surge in humanitarian aid enabled by a halt in fighting. Netanyahu updated Biden on the progress of the talks and the mandate given to his security delegation in Doha to advance a hostage deal.
The two leaders also discussed the altered regional landscape following the ceasefire deal in Lebanon, the fall of the Assad regime in Syria, and the weakening of Iran's regional power.
National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated that the parties involved were close to reaching a deal but still needed to finalize it. Biden receives daily updates on the Doha talks, where Israeli and Palestinian officials have reported some progress in indirect negotiations with Hamas.

It's a shame that Biden is giving in to Netanyahu's demands.
