The West's Weakness and the Need for a Strong Response
Liz Truss, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, delivered a powerful speech at a conference hosted by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). In her address, she argued that the West has become "weak" in the face of aggression from authoritarian states and needs to adopt a more robust approach.
Truss identified China, North Korea, Russia, and Iran as an "Axis of Aggression" and warned that appeasement has emboldened these regimes. She specifically criticized decades of appeasement by Western politicians and bureaucrats, which she believes has allowed Iran to inch closer to acquiring nuclear weapons.
To counter this threat, Truss advocated for a "peace through strength" approach, similar to the strategy championed by Ronald Reagan during the Cold War. This would involve increased defense spending, reduced reliance on oil and gas from authoritarian regimes, and support for democratic movements within these countries.
Truss's speech resonated with other speakers at the conference, including retired US generals James Jones and Keith Kellogg. Both generals expressed support for a "maximum pressure" policy against Iran and endorsed the NCRI's "10-point plan" for a democratic future in the country.
appeasement has failed, and the West must adopt a stronger stance to protect its interests and promote freedom and democracy around the world.

This so-called 'Axis of Aggression' is a simplification of complex issues; dialogue is crucial.

Truss should focus on the mess that is domestic policy instead of pushing for conflicts abroad.

Her claims about Iran are exaggerated; diplomacy has often yielded better results than threats.
