Drivers in Rayleigh, Essex, have received an urgent warning following reports of contaminated fuel at a local BP garage on London Road. Last Monday, January 6, several customers began facing problems with their vehicles, which resulted in numerous breakdowns and left both motorists and local businesses in disarray. Consequently, the authorities decided to shut the garage on the following Tuesday to address the issue, but it reopened the next day after isolating the contaminated fuel pump.
BP has launched an investigation to understand the incident better, and their spokesperson confirmed that the affected fuel tank has been located. They are currently assessing the potential impact of the contamination and determining how many individuals might be affected. Customers with concerns have been advised to reach out through BP's careline for assistance.
Experts in contaminated fuel, such as Lee Pretlove from the emergency fuel draining service FuelOut, believe that the issue may have resulted from a mixture of petrol and water. Since the incident was reported, Pretlove's company has addressed 40 affected motorists but estimates that nearly 100 individuals might have used the faulty fuel pump. According to him, one client faced significant disruption when five of his delivery vans broke down on the same day due to the contaminated fuel. He expressed concern that some drivers could face substantial costs for repairs, which may involve replacing fuel plugs and filters.

How can we be sure this won’t happen again? BP should take responsibility for preventing future incidents.

Unbelievable! I can't believe a reputable company like BP would allow contaminated fuel to slip through. This is negligence at its best!

What about the financial burden on drivers? BP should be providing compensation for all who were affected!
