A Rush Hour Journey on the M6
The first light of dawn had yet to break as we joined the M6, embarking on our daily commute while darkness still enveloped the world. The early morning journeys that were once accompanied by the soft light of dawn now began under a veil of darkness, the bright days of summer a distant memory. A fine rain misted from above, transforming headlights and taillights into a shimmering fog on our windscreen, signaling the start of a gloomy day.
Despite the grim weather, the determined surge of early risers showed no signs of slowing. As expected, traffic thickened between Junction 10a (M54) and Junction 9 (Wednesbury), a notorious choke point for southbound travelers. To alleviate this bottleneck, highway authorities had implemented a 60mph speed limit, its new red figures glaring down from the gantries above the bustling traffic.
"On some motorways, mandatory motorway signals (which display the speed within a red ring) are used to vary the maximum speed limit to improve traffic flow. You MUST NOT exceed this speed limit."
This straightforward rule is frequently overlooked by today's motorists, putting themselves and others at unnecessary risk.

Why even bother with speed limits when people ignore them anyway? It's a waste of time.

Honestly, the traffic is bad because of the sheer number of cars. We need better public transport!

Such an accurate depiction of the morning traffic woes. We really need better solutions!

These bottlenecks are absurd. We should advocate for more effective traffic solutions.
