AAP MLA Mohinder Goyal Denies Allegations of Involvement in Fake Aadhaar Cards

Mohinder Goyal, an MLA from the Aam Aadmi Party representing the Rithala Assembly constituency in Delhi, firmly denied accusations of his involvement in the fabrication of fake Aadhaar cards. He characterized the claims as politically driven, asserting that no such activities have occurred on his part and suggesting that local political opponents may be behind these allegations.

The context of Goyal's statements comes after the Delhi Police issued a notice to him and his office staff as part of an investigation related to fake Aadhaar documents connected to several arrested Bangladeshi nationals. Despite the police action, Goyal claims he has not yet received any official notice, although he was informed that police officials had attempted to deliver one at his residence.

The situation has been stirred further by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s aggressive criticism of the AAP, linking the party to alleged complicity with anti-national elements in the context of the upcoming Delhi assembly elections. BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi cited findings from investigations into fraudulent voter registrations in Delhi, alleging that these involved fake Aadhaar cards, and implicated MLA Goyal and a colleague in a broader conspiracy. As the assembly elections approach, the issue of Bangladeshi migrants and their documentation has emerged as a contentious topic, with the election scheduled for February 5 and votes to be counted on February 8.
