Mumbai Metro Lines 7 and 2A Receive Regular Safety Certification
Mumbai's metro network has achieved a significant milestone with the Chief Commissioner of Rail Safety (CCRS) granting regular safety certification for Metro Line 7 (Red Line) and Metro Line 2A (Yellow Line). This certification allows for unrestricted operations at full capacity speed of 80 kilometers per hour, replacing the previous temporary speed limit of 50-60 kilometers per hour.
Both lines, operated by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), play a crucial role in reducing congestion on Mumbai's busiest routes. Metro Line 2A spans 18.6 km with 17 stations, while Metro Line 7 covers 16.5 km with 13 stations. Together, they serve over 2.5 lakh daily passengers, with a cumulative ridership exceeding 15 crore since operations began.
MMRDA's commitment to providing a safe, eco-friendly, and efficient metro network is evident in its implementation of state-of-the-art technology. This includes driverless-capable trainsets, CBTC signaling, platform screen doors, and innovative ticketing systems. These metro lines are instrumental in achieving the Chief Minister's vision of "Mumbai in Minutes."
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his satisfaction with the development, stating that it brings Mumbai closer to becoming a world-class city with an efficient transport network. He emphasized the government's commitment to providing sustainable, time-saving, and eco-friendly mobility options for Mumbaikars.
Deputy Chief Minister and Chairman MMRDA Eknath Shinde echoed the sentiment, highlighting the transformative impact of Mumbai's metro expansion. He emphasized MMRDA's dedication to further developing the network to meet the growing demands of the city.
Metropolitan Commissioner, Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, acknowledged the relentless efforts of MMRDA in adhering to the highest safety standards and operational excellence. He expressed confidence that the removal of speed restrictions and the safety certification will enhance the metro experience and contribute to achieving the goal of "Mumbai in Minutes.

15 crore passengers? Doesn't mean it's convenient for everyone. My area still doesn't have a stop!

Another ribbon-cutting ceremony for politicians to pat themselves on the back. I just want a decent commute.

Eco-friendly? Maybe when they stop cutting down trees for new lines and start fixing existing infrastructure.
