Akhilesh Yadav Criticizes BJP Government After Lintel Collapse at Kannauj Railway Station

Akhilesh Yadav, the head of the Samajwadi Party and a Member of Parliament, expressed strong disapproval of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government's management after a lintel collapsed at the Kannauj railway station. He highlighted the tragic nature of the event and criticized the negligence in safety standards during construction, stating it was an example of both negligent practices and corruption associated with the ruling party. Yadav observed that contractors are often pressured to outsource work multiple times, which leads to compromised quality and safety measures.

Following the incident, Yadav insisted on the government's responsibility to provide comprehensive medical assistance and support for all those impacted. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister, Keshav Prasad Maurya, assured the public that appropriate actions would be taken against anyone found responsible for the mishap after a thorough investigation.

The rescue efforts involved the use of a dog squad, which successfully identified and rescued around 28 individuals, with many receiving medical care immediately after the collapse. While 15 of those injured were discharged from the hospital, six sustained serious injuries but were reported to be out of danger. Uttar Pradesh Minister Rajni Tiwari also confirmed that an inquiry would take place to determine accountability for the incident, which occurred during the construction of a railway building.

In response to the situation, compensation plans were announced, including Rs 50,000 for those severely injured and Rs 5,000 for minor injuries. Local officials engaged in ongoing relief efforts and inspections to ensure no additional victims were trapped under the debris. The Kannauj railway station is part of the Amrit Bharat Yojana, which focuses on upgrading railway infrastructure, indicating the importance of the site’s development despite the recent tragic occurrence.
