Thai Police Investigate Disappearances of Two Chinese Nationals Amid Human Trafficking Concerns
Thai authorities have launched investigations into the disappearances of two Chinese nationals, a male model named Yang Zeqi and a young woman named Wu Jiaqi, amid concerns of human trafficking. The cases bear similarities to the recent disappearance and rescue of Chinese actor Wang Xing, who was found near the Myanmar border after being lured to Thailand for a film production.
Yang Zeqi, a male model, went missing in late December after traveling to Thailand for a film audition. His cousin, Mou, shared details of his disappearance on the Chinese microblogging platform Sina Weibo. According to Mou, Yang passed the audition and flew to Bangkok on December 20th. He was picked up from the airport by a vehicle arranged by the alleged film crew and taken to the Thai-Myanmar border.
A day later, Yang sent a distress message to his friends before losing contact. He later made a video call to his mother on December 29th, claiming to be safe. However, his mother noticed "obvious scars on the corner of his eyes" and his condition appeared concerning. Yang's friends have since contacted the Chinese police and embassies in Thailand and Myanmar.
The disappearance of Wu Jiaqi, a young woman, was brought to the attention of the Thai police this week. Details surrounding her case remain unclear.
These disappearances have raised concerns about human trafficking, particularly in light of Wang Xing's experience. Thai authorities are actively investigating both cases and working to locate the missing individuals.
