Ottawa Senators Lock Up Young Forward Ridly Greig with Four-Year Extension
The Ottawa Senators have secured the future of a key piece of their young core, signing forward Ridly Greig to a four-year contract extension worth $13 million. The deal, announced Friday, carries an average annual value of $3.25 million.
Greig, 22, has emerged as a valuable asset for the Senators since being drafted 28th overall in 2020. In 129 NHL games over parts of three seasons, the Lethbridge, Alberta native has shown steady improvement, culminating in a career-high 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists) in 72 games during the 2023-24 season, his first full NHL campaign.
This extension signifies the Senators' commitment to building around their young talent. Despite a recent slump that has seen them lose four straight and six of their last seven games, the team clearly sees Greig as a key part of their future success.
The Senators will look to get back on track Saturday when they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins.

This contract is a slap in the face to the fans who have suffered through years of bad hockey. The team needs to start winning before they start handing out big contracts.

The Senators clearly overestimate Greig's value. This contract will hamstring their cap space for years to come.

There are better ways to spend $13 million than on Ridly Greig. The Senators need to be smarter with their resources.

Greig had a decent season, but 26 points isn't exactly breaking the bank. This contract feels like a gamble.

This is the kind of move that makes me proud to be a Senators fan. The future is bright with Greig leading the way.
