Redblacks Sign Stanback, Mauldin; Other Teams Make Moves
The Ottawa Redblacks made a splash in free agency on Friday, signing running back William Stanback to a one-year deal and re-signing defensive lineman Lorenzo Mauldin IV to a one-year extension.
Stanback, who had a stellar season with the B.C. Lions in 2024, finished second in the CFL in rushing yards with 1,175. He also had five touchdowns and 46 receptions for 413 yards.
"William has been one of the league's most consistently productive backs since joining the CFL," said Redblacks general manager Shawn Burke. "We are excited to add him to our organization, and welcome him to the city of Ottawa."
Mauldin, meanwhile, was tied for the CFL lead with eight sacks last season and earned All-CFL honors for the second time.
"Lorenzo has solidified himself as one of the CFL's most disruptive pass rushers since he joined us in 2022," said Redblacks head coach Bob Dyce. "He is a dominant presence on our defensive line, and we couldn't be more excited to welcome him back for the 2025 season."
The Redblacks weren't the only team making moves on Friday. The reigning Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts signed defensive back Lawrence Johnson to a one-year deal, extended the contracts of running back Deonta McMahon and defensive back Jon Edouard, and acquired linebacker Cam Judge in a trade with Calgary.
In Montreal, the Alouettes signed kicker David Cote and defensive back Robert Kennedy. The B.C. Lions signed three players, and the Calgary Stampeders acquired defensive lineman Folarin Orimolade in a trade with the Argonauts.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers agreed to terms on a one-year extension with defensive back Jamal Parker Jr., and the Edmonton Elks finalized their coaching staff under new head coach Mark Kilam.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats also made some key hires in their scouting department.

What a great day to be a Redblacks fan! This is exactly the kind of moves we needed to make.

This team is so frustrating. They always find a way to lose.

Mauldin is one of the best defensive players in the CFL. I'm so glad he's staying in Ottawa.
