The Buffalo Sabres skated into Ottawa on Thursday night and spoiled the Senators' homecoming with a convincing 4-0 victory. The Senators, who had just returned from a nine-game road trip and nearly a month away from their home arena due to the World Junior Hockey Championship, were met with a chorus of boos from their own fans after a lackluster performance.
The Sabres got on the board first when Jack Quinn scored his first goal of the game midway through the first period. Quinn added his second goal later in the frame, taking a pass from Peyton Krebs at center ice as he stepped out of the penalty box and firing a shot over the shoulder of Senators goaltender Anton Forsberg.
The Sabres extended their lead to 3-0 early in the second period when Dylan Cozens capitalized on a Nick Jensen turnover. Ryan McLeod made it 4-0 midway through the period, deflecting a shot past Forsberg.
The Senators had their chances to score, but they were unable to convert. They also made several defensive mistakes that led to goals for the Sabres. The loss was the Senators' fourth in a row, and they have been outscored 15-4 during that stretch.
The Sabres, meanwhile, are now 16-21-5 on the season. They will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Senators will try to snap their losing streak on Saturday when they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Letting a player like Quinn score twice is just a testament to how weak the Senators' defense is. Time for a major change!
