According to Zhang Ming, the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Public Security, China experienced a considerable decrease in criminal activity in 2024. Specifically, there was a 25.7 percent decline in the total number of criminal cases, contributing to a safer environment for the general public. Additionally, incidents involving guns and explosives fell by 37.5 percent, indicating improved safety measures.
During this period, law enforcement successfully addressed 38,000 drug-related cases, seizing a substantial 24.4 metric tons of various illegal drugs. However, the challenges faced by the police were underscored by the tragic loss of life, with 208 police officers and 174 auxiliary officers dying in the line of duty. The data also revealed that a significant number of personnel were injured while carrying out their responsibilities, with 4,743 police officers and 3,710 auxiliary officers reporting injuries.
Remarkably, in recognition of the dedication of police forces, January 10 was established as "Chinese People's Police Day" starting in 2021, as approved by the State Council. This day is intended to honor the sacrifices made by police officers and to promote the importance of public safety in the country.

I'm concerned about the lack of transparency in this report. We need more information to understand the whole picture.

208 police officers dead? That's awful! What are they doing to protect them?

Creating a 'Police Day' feels like a way to glorify the police, even when they make mistakes.

My heart goes out to the families of the officers who lost their lives. They are heroes.

25.7% decrease? That still leaves a lot of crime! Feels like propaganda to me.
