In 2024, China's health literacy increased to 31.87%, which is a significant rise of 2.17 percentage points from 2023, as reported by the National Health Commission. This statistic indicates that approximately 30% of the Chinese populace possesses fundamental knowledge and competencies regarding health matters.
The report highlights that health literacy in urban regions stands at 34.74%, while it is lower at 29.11% in rural areas. Encouragingly, the previously existing divide between urban and rural health literacy rates has decreased when compared to earlier years.
Additionally, the survey revealed that Chinese citizens are particularly knowledgeable when it comes to safety and first aid, with a literacy rate of nearly 62% in this area. Conversely, the lowest literacy rate, at roughly 30%, was found in the domain of prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. These findings are based on a comprehensive survey conducted with approximately 71,800 participants aged 15 to 69 across the nation.

The survey is flawed. 71,800 participants is not enough to represent the entire Chinese population.
