Zelenskyy Addresses Allies at Ramstein Air Base, Calls for Continued Support
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed a gathering of about 50 allies at the American military's Ramstein Air Base in Germany, just 11 days before Donald Trump's return to the White House. His speech focused on the need for continued Western support for Ukraine's war effort, particularly in the form of troops and military aid.
Zelenskyy acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding future American support under Trump, given his previous statements about Russia and his vow to quickly end the war. He urged allies to remain united and to "find as many instruments as possible to force Russia into peace," including the deployment of troops.
The United States, under President Joe Biden, has been Ukraine's biggest wartime backer, providing over $65 billion in military aid since February 2022. The latest package, announced by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, includes a wide range of missiles, weapons, equipment, and provisions for services, training, and transportation.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine, stating that the war "matters to all of us." He stressed the need to ensure that "autocrats cannot place their imperial ambitions ahead of the bedrock rights of free and sovereign peoples."
European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas expressed hope that the U.S. would continue its support, but also stated that the EU was ready to take the lead if necessary. She emphasized that it was not in America's interest for Russia to become the strongest force in the world.
With Trump's inauguration approaching, Russian and Ukrainian forces are engaged in fierce fighting, seeking to secure their battlefield positions. The future of the war remains uncertain, but allies are committed to helping Ukraine reach a position of strength for any eventual ceasefire or peace talks.

Supporting Ukraine is supporting freedom and democracy against tyranny. Let's keep the aid coming!

Zelenskyy should focus on diplomatic solutions rather than pushing for more troops.

Is all this aid really helping Ukraine, or just fueling an endless cycle of violence?
