China Establishes First Medical Large Model Testing Center in Shanghai
China has taken a significant step towards integrating artificial intelligence into its healthcare sector with the establishment of its first application testing and verification center for medical large models in Shanghai. This center, inaugurated by the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence (AI) Laboratory, aims to bridge the gap between training, evaluation, and application of these powerful AI models in the medical field.
The center will initially collaborate with twelve leading healthcare institutions in Shanghai to validate the use of medical large models in various areas, including disease prediction, diagnostic assistance, personalized treatment, and drug discovery. While these models hold immense potential, challenges such as accuracy, interpretability, data privacy, and medical ethics remain.
To address these concerns, the center has implemented a comprehensive evaluation process that includes qualifications verification, model review, safety assessment, medical scenario evaluation, product ethics review, and application tracking. This rigorous approach ensures that medical large model applications undergo thorough assessments before being deployed in real-world scenarios.
"In the future, this center will be used to evaluate various artificial intelligence applications in Shanghai's healthcare system, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient service, while providing technical support for the intelligent development of healthcare," said Zhou Bowen, director and chief scientist of the Shanghai AI Laboratory.
In addition to the testing center, the Shanghai medical large model collaborative innovation and application alliance was also established. This alliance focuses on fostering the innovative application and development of medical large models and exploring new ways to deliver AI-powered healthcare solutions.
Furthermore, several other initiatives were announced, including the development of a health industry corpus, a dedicated medical large model, and the launch of the first batch of large model medical demonstration application projects. The medical large model, known as "Shanghai medical intelligent assistant," is the first industry-level, integrated medical basic model in Shanghai. It offers a wide range of capabilities in healthcare service management, grassroots public health services, health industry development, and medical education and research.
These initiatives demonstrate China's commitment to leveraging the power of AI to improve healthcare outcomes and advance the medical field. The establishment of the testing center and the collaborative alliance are crucial steps in ensuring the safe, ethical, and effective integration of medical large models into the healthcare system.
