Meteorological Response and Safety Precautions
Following the devastating 6.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Dingri county in Xizang autonomous region on Tuesday, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) has upgraded its emergency response for earthquake-related meteorological services. The Xizang regional meteorological bureau has also adjusted its emergency response status accordingly.
The earthquake caused significant casualties and widespread property damage. Rescue and relief efforts are underway, but freezing weather conditions in the affected area pose additional challenges. The CMA has issued a weather forecast for Dingri county, predicting mostly sunny days with temperatures ranging from -18°C to -14°C minimum and 0°C to 7°C maximum over the next three days.
Given the freezing temperatures, the CMA urges rescue and relief workers to take precautions against hypothermia. Individuals in emergency shelters should be mindful of the risks associated with using open flames for heating and take necessary measures to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
The CMA continues to monitor the situation and provide meteorological support for the ongoing relief efforts.
