Ukraine Launches Fresh Offensive in Kursk Ahead of Potential Peace Talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a new offensive in the Kursk region, aiming to secure more territory before potential peace negotiations with Russia. This comes just a day after Zelensky claimed North Korea had lost over 3,800 soldiers fighting alongside Russian forces in the region.
While Ukraine has recaptured significant territory in Kursk since August 2024, Russia maintains it has regained much of it. Despite this, Zelensky remains optimistic about the possibility of a peace deal, citing his close relationships with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and incoming US President Donald Trump.
Trump, who takes office on January 20, has vowed to end the war within 24 hours. He has not elaborated on his strategy but hinted at using economic and geopolitical pressure on both nations.
Unverified footage circulating online shows Ukrainian tanks and armored vehicles heading towards the village of Berdin, aiming to expand their control in the region. Additionally, Zelensky stated that Ukrainian forces have established a buffer zone in Kursk, preventing Russia from diverting its military resources to other fronts.
With the new offensive underway and potential peace talks looming, the coming weeks could prove pivotal in determining the future of the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
