Princess Charlotte, Prince George, and Prince Louis stepped out with other senior royals for the annual festive walkabout on Christmas Day last year. The nine-year-old princess was spotted shaking hands with members of the public and politely accepting presents. She even posed for a selfie with an excited fan.
While most of the headlines focused on Charlotte's matching outfit to her mother, Princess Kate, some people have noticed a small detail linking the princess to her estranged uncle, Prince Harry. Although Charlotte has not seen the prince for several years, she was reportedly sporting a very expensive ruby necklace designed by his ex-girlfriend, Chelsy Davy.
Davy was friends with both Charlotte's parents, Prince William and Princess Kate, for a number of years. She and Prince Harry dated from 2004 until 2011. Their relationship often dominated royal news, with Davy attending various events with the prince, including King Charles's 60th birthday. She also attended Prince William and Kate's royal wedding in April 2011.
It is believed that Davy did not enjoy being in the spotlight and wanted to maintain her privacy. This became increasingly challenging as her relationship with Harry continued.
"Unlike so many people I knew, she seemed wholly unconcerned with appearances, with propriety, with royalty. Unlike so many girls I met, she wasn’t visibly fitting herself for a crown the moment she shook my hand. She seemed immune to that common affliction sometimes called throne syndrome."
Despite breaking up in 2011, the pair remained good friends, and Davy attended Prince Harry's wedding to Meghan Markle in 2018. She has refrained from commenting on the prince since his decision to step back from royal life in 2020.
It is not known whether Prince William or Princess Kate, both 42, still talk to Chelsy, who they were good friends with for a number of years. It is also not known who gave Charlotte the necklace.
