China's construction of a hydropower project on the lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River has undergone rigorous scientific assessment, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun. The project will not negatively impact the ecological environment, geological conditions, or water resource rights of downstream countries, Guo added.
Guo made these remarks in response to India's concerns about the construction of the hydropower dam on the Yarlung Zangbo River. India had conveyed its concerns to China through diplomatic channels.
Guo noted that the project can contribute to disaster prevention and mitigation efforts and support climate change adaptation in downstream regions. He emphasized that China has always attached great importance to the concerns of downstream countries and has conducted extensive consultations with them on the project.
China and India have a long history of cooperation on transboundary water resources. The two countries have signed a number of agreements on water-sharing and flood control. China is committed to working with India to ensure the sustainable development and utilization of transboundary water resources.

This project is a positive step forward for the development of the Tibetan plateau.

This project is a disaster waiting to happen. We need to stand in solidarity with India and demand that China halt construction immediately.

The ecological consequences of this dam will be devastating. The fragile ecosystem of the Yarlung Zangbo River cannot sustain such a project.

China's reassurances ring hollow. Their track record on environmental protection is spotty at best. This project is a ticking time bomb for the ecosystem and downstream communities.

China's claim of "rigorous scientific assessment" is simply a smokescreen to greenwash this destructive project.

We stand with India in their fight against this destructive project. The future of the Yarlung Zangbo River and the people who depend on it hangs in the balance.

China's claim that they have conducted extensive consultations with downstream countries is a lie. They have ignored the concerns of India and other stakeholders.

The claim that this project will benefit downstream regions is ludicrous. It's clear that China's only motivation is economic gain, not environmental or social responsibility.
