A 22-year-old man in Singapore was sentenced to two years and eight months in jail after being found guilty of sexually exploiting two boys living in his housing block. Although the identities of the victims and the offender remain protected due to a gag order, the case reveals the extent of the man's offenses, which included charges of sexual exploitation and possession of obscene materials.
The man, who was just 20 years old at the time of the offenses, pleaded guilty to multiple charges including sexually exploiting a child and possessing indecent films. He initiated contact with the first victim, an 11-year-old boy, at the void deck of their block, where his initial advances were ignored. However, after a second encounter, the boy began visiting the man’s home multiple times, where the man proceeded to remove the boy’s clothing and engaged in indecent acts.
The man also exhibited grooming behavior by hugging the boy on several occasions, and these interactions were witnessed by a neighbor, who later informed the boy's mother. The case came to light when the boy's mother reported the incidents to the police after having a conversation with her son about the man’s actions.
In a separate incident, he also exploited an eight-year-old boy, inviting him to his home, where he recorded an indecent act. The video included a disturbing moment where the man encouraged the boy to blow a kiss for the camera, resulting in a damning video that the perpetrator kept for his own gratification.
Authorities arrested the man after finding numerous obscene films, including footage of the second victim, on his mobile phones. The prosecution argued for a lengthy sentence due to the premeditated nature of the offenses, emphasizing the vulnerability of the young victims. Despite the defense’s claims of the man's familial support and efforts towards rehabilitation, the judge noted that there was insufficient evidence to indicate that any improvements in his behavior were meaningful. Consequently, the severity of his offenses led the court to impose a significant prison term.
