In his New Year message for 2025, President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of confidence as China navigates various economic challenges. He highlighted the nation's ability to tackle these difficulties through diligence, even as it experiences transition pressures and uncertainties in the global landscape.
As China approaches the completion of its 14th Five-Year Plan, Xi stated that the government will adopt more proactive and effective policies aimed at fostering high-quality development. He stressed the significance of self-reliance and strengthening science and technology, as well as the need to sustain economic and social progress.
Reflecting on 2024, Xi noted a positive trend, with the economy showing signs of recovery and growth. He projected that the national GDP would exceed 130 trillion yuan and that grain production would surpass 700 million tonnes. Additionally, he pointed out the emergence of new business sectors and technological advancements, including the production of over ten million new energy vehicles and notable breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, integrated circuits, and quantum communications.
