Mount Qomolangma Welcomes International Tourists
Mount Qomolangma, also known as Mount Everest, witnessed a surge in international tourism in 2024. The Chinese side of the mountain received 13,764 tourists, primarily from Singapore, Malaysia, Germany, and France. This significant increase, more than double the previous year's figures, reflects the positive impact of China's relaxed visa policies on international tourism.
The influx of tourists contributed to Dingri county's impressive tourism revenue, reaching approximately 420 million yuan ($57.3 million) in 2024, a 10.3% year-on-year growth. The renowned beauty of Mount Qomolangma, the tallest mountain on Earth, has attracted visitors to the Qomolangma Scenic Area in Dingri county.
The scenic area boasts 91 hotels and guesthouses, accommodating over 2,800 daily visitors. This growth has brought prosperity to the local community, exemplified by Chodan's success. After graduating from university, Chodan returned to her hometown and started a tourism business. Beginning with tent rentals at the Qomolangma Base Camp in 2022, she expanded to establish a guesthouse within the scenic area, earning nearly 500,000 yuan in 2024.
The Qomolangma Scenic Area offers a unique opportunity to experience the majesty of Mount Qomolangma and contribute to the local community's economic development.
