Fulham and Ipswich Draw in Dramatic Match
Fulham and Ipswich Town played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage on Sunday, extending Fulham's unbeaten streak to eight league matches. Both teams converted penalties in the second half, with Raul Jimenez scoring twice from the spot for Fulham and Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap finding the net for Ipswich.
The first half saw Fulham dominate possession but struggle to create clear chances. Ipswich took the lead against the run of play in the 38th minute through Szmodics, capitalizing on defensive errors from Antonee Robinson and Calvin Bassey.
The second half was a different story, with both teams converting penalties within two minutes. Fulham was awarded a penalty after Sam Morsy brought down Harry Wilson in the box. Referee Darren Bond initially denied the penalty but changed his decision following a VAR review. Jimenez stepped up and converted the penalty, sending Ipswich goalkeeper Christian Walton the wrong way.
Ipswich regained the lead shortly after when Liam Delap was brought down by Timothy Castagne in the box. Delap converted the penalty himself, giving Ipswich a 2-1 advantage.
However, Fulham equalized again in the 90th minute when Leif Davis fouled Jimenez in the box. Jimenez stepped up once more and converted the penalty, securing a point for Fulham.
Fulham manager Marco Silva was unhappy with the referee's decision not to award a red card to Davis for his foul on Wilson in the first half. Silva felt that Davis denied Wilson a clear goalscoring opportunity and should have been sent off.
Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna expressed his disappointment at not winning the match after leading twice. He was proud of his team's performance and felt they had chances to extend their lead but were unable to capitalize.
The draw leaves Fulham in ninth place with 30 points, while Ipswich remain in 18th place with 16 points, level with 17th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers who have a game in hand.
