Tugboat Sinks in Mississippi River Collision, Crew Rescued
The calm waters of the Mississippi River near Luling, Louisiana, were disrupted on the evening of December 28th when a collision between a tugboat and a tanker ship sent the smaller vessel to its watery grave. Thankfully, the five crew members on board the tugboat were swiftly rescued, leaving no casualties in the wake of the accident.
The St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office received reports of the collision, which occurred near the Hale Boggs Memorial Bridge. Initial investigations suggest that the upriver-bound tanker collided with the tugboat, causing it to rapidly sink in the 90-foot deep section of the river.
The U.S. Coast Guard, ever vigilant protectors of our waterways, promptly dispatched a team to the scene. While the Coast Guard investigates the cause of the accident, they are also diligently assessing the potential environmental impact of the sunken tugboat.
Despite the incident, the Mississippi River remains open to traffic, ensuring the continued flow of commerce along this vital waterway. The Coast Guard's investigation will shed light on the circumstances surrounding the collision, helping to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
