Shenzhen Women's Team Secures First Final Spot
The 2024 China Table Tennis Super League (CTTSL) Finals commenced at the Shanghai Gymnasium on December 30th. The three-day competition features eight teams, four men's and four women's, who qualified through a round-robin format in the first phase of the season.
In the women's semifinals, defending champions Shenzhen, led by world No. 1 Sun Yingsha, delivered a convincing 3-1 victory over the Shanghai team. This win secured Shenzhen's place in the title game scheduled for January 1st, 2025.
"Both teams played exceptionally well today," commented Sun after the match. "Every game was close, both in score and competition. We performed at our best, and I'm thrilled to have reached the final."
Looking ahead to the final, Sun expressed her hope for a cohesive team performance and giving their all regardless of the outcome.
Liu Guoliang, chairman of the Chinese Table Tennis Association, addressed the crowd, highlighting Shanghai's role as a birthplace of Chinese table tennis and its contribution to the sport's rich history.
The event also features finals for teenagers' teams (aged 7-10) as part of the national training team selection process. These young players represent the future of Chinese table tennis, showcasing their skills and vying for a chance to join the national team.
