Surge in Overseas Travel Anticipated for Spring Festival Holidays, Reveals CAAC

According to a recent announcement from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), overseas travel is poised to hit new heights during the upcoming Spring Festival holidays. This expected surge is attributed to the expansion of China's visa-free travel options and enhanced payment services for international visitors, leading to both outbound and inbound travel demands climbing significantly.

Xu Qing, an official from the CAAC, highlighted that neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Japan are among the most favored destinations for travelers. The CAAC has indicated that critical travel days are anticipated to fall between January 25-27 prior to the Spring Festival, and February 4-7 following the holiday.

Data from Trip.com, a leading online travel agency in China, indicates that travel requests from foreign visitors to China are projected to increase by an impressive 203% year-on-year during the Spring Festival 2025. Tourists from South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan are expected to contribute significantly, with cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, and Harbin being particularly popular.

The aviation industry is also set for a record-breaking season, with preliminary figures suggesting that it accommodated over 730 million passenger journeys in 2024. The upcoming Spring Festival is expected to witness passenger transportation volume exceeding 90 million, marking a historic milestone. Additionally, an expected average of 18,500 flights per day during this travel period represents an 8.4% increase from the previous year.

In response to surging travel demand, Chinese airlines are unveiling new flight routes. For instance, China Southern Airlines is doubling its weekly round trips to popular Southeast Asian destinations, and new routes connecting various cities in China to Singapore and Thailand will also be established. The recent relaxation of visa regulations, allowing eligible visitors to stay for up to 10 days, is expected to further bolster travel and economic interactions.

I'm optimistic that this will lead to a more peaceful and prosperous world. I believe that travel can break down barriers and build bridges between different people and cultures.

I think it's important for people to see different parts of the world and experience different cultures. It will make them more open-minded and tolerant.

I'm worried about the safety of all these extra travelers, especially with the recent increase in COVID cases in some countries.
