China's Response to the U.S. National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)
China has expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the U.S. National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2025. The act, which allocates a defense budget of up to $895 billion and identifies China as a major challenge to U.S. national security, is seen by China as an excuse to increase U.S. military spending and maintain its hegemony.
Zhang Xiaogang, a spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, emphasized that China has no intention of challenging any country and that the U.S. should focus on addressing its own internal issues. He pointed out that the U.S. is the world's leading military spender, with expenditures that continue to rise rapidly year after year. This, according to Zhang, exposes the belligerent nature of the U.S. and its obsession with hegemony and expansion.
Zhang also criticized the U.S. for its involvement in numerous wars and conflicts, which have resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths, millions of injuries, and tens of millions of displaced people. He argued that the U.S.'s abuse of force not only harms the world but also accelerates its own decline.
China, on the other hand, remains committed to peaceful development and a defensive defense policy. Zhang emphasized that China does not engage in arms races and serves as a defender of world peace. He urged the U.S. to abandon its Cold War mentality and zero-sum mindset and to stop its attempts to contain and outcompete China.
In response to reports of the U.S. Space Force activating a unit in Japan, Zhang expressed concern over the U.S.'s continued expansion of its space military power and its efforts to provoke a space arms race. He reiterated China's commitment to the peaceful use of space and its opposition to its weaponization and militarization.
China's response to the NDAA highlights its growing concerns about U.S. military expansion and its attempts to contain China's rise. It also underscores China's commitment to peaceful development and its opposition to the militarization of space.

It's rich for China to lecture the U.S. on military spending when they are rapidly expanding their own military capabilities.

The U.S. military budget is out of control! China’s concerns are legitimate and deserve attention.

China's position is a wake-up call for the U.S. We can’t afford to keep escalating tensions.

It's refreshing to see a nation like China advocate for peace while others escalate conflict.

I appreciate Zhang Xiaogang’s balanced view of China’s defensive policy, contrasting with U.S. aggression.

Criticism of U.S. spending while China engages in massive military investments reveals a lack of self-awareness in Beijing.
