Earthquake in Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region
The Earthquake Agency of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region reported that no significant seismic activity has been detected in the earthquake zone of Yinchuan and nearby areas. However, residents may still feel the impact of aftershocks in the coming days.
Following the 4.8-magnitude and 4.6-magnitude earthquakes on Thursday, multiple small tremors occurred in Yinchuan city, the capital of Ningxia. The most noticeable was a 2.6-magnitude tremor that struck Jinfeng district at 3:45 am on Friday.
The Ministry of Emergency Management has launched a Level IV disaster-relief emergency response and dispatched a work team to assist local rescue and relief operations in the affected areas. The local firefighting department has also deployed personnel and vehicles to conduct assessments around the epicenter. Additionally, heavy and light rescue teams are on standby to provide support.
Several trains have been delayed or slowed down to ensure passenger safety. Houses and other infrastructure in Yinchuan are considered safe, as they are designed to withstand earthquakes of around magnitude 6. However, residents are advised to remain vigilant against injuries caused by falling objects.
The earthquakes struck Yongning county and Jinfeng district at 10:01 am and 4:43 pm respectively. Ningxia has experienced a series of earthquakes in the area from Yongning county to Jinfeng district since September last year.
According to a joint analysis by the Ningxia Earthquake Agency and the China Earthquake Networks Center, the unique geological conditions of the faulted basin in Yinchuan, with its thick sediment layers, intensified the tremors' impact felt by residents.

Feeling aftershocks is not comforting. It’s a sign that there might be bigger issues beneath the surface.

This is becoming a regular occurrence in Ningxia. How long until something worse happens?

What about the psychological impact on residents? Constant tremors create fear and anxiety.

The government keeps saying everything is safe, but we all know that safety is often just a facade.
