China Vows to Defend Sovereignty, Combat "Taiwan Independence" in 2025
In a New Year message, Song Tao, head of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, reaffirmed China's commitment to safeguarding its national sovereignty and territorial integrity. He emphasized the importance of combating "Taiwan independence" separatism and foreign interference in the coming year.
Song highlighted the mainland's success in maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait throughout 2024. He attributed this achievement to the mainland's firm grasp on the initiative and leadership in cross-Strait relations, as well as the extensive collaboration with various sectors of Taiwan society.
He further emphasized the strong actions taken to protect the common homeland of both sides, deterring "Taiwan independence" separatism and external forces' attempts to use Taiwan as a tool to contain mainland development.
Looking ahead to 2025, Song noted the significance of commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's recovery from Japanese occupation. He urged compatriots on both sides to embrace their historical responsibilities and work together towards the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the complete reunification of the motherland.

The only thing China is defending is its authoritarian regime. Taiwan is a thriving democracy—they are not the same!

Taiwan is not part of China. It has its own identity and deserves international support.

What does 'combating Taiwan independence' even mean? It sounds more like a threat than a promise of peace.

So basically, China plans to crush any democratic voices in Taiwan. This is a clear violation of human rights!

China's aggression towards Taiwan only leads to more tension and fear. Respect Taiwan's right to self-determination!

Sounds like a call for war, not stability. Taiwan's independence is non-negotiable; they have the right to self-govern.

The 'peace and stability' Song talks about is a facade. China needs to stop bullying Taiwan and respect its autonomy.

This rhetoric only stokes fear. Real leaders should promote dialogue, not threats of military action.

It's disappointing that some people still support this harmful narrative about 'reunification'. Taiwan is already independent!

A strong China is a stable China. The future lies in embracing our shared heritage with Taiwan!
