A brave 71-year-old woman fought back against four teenage girls who attempted to mug her on a New York City subway on New Year's Day. The victim, identified as Linda Rosa, was on her way to church when the teens approached her and tried to steal her bag.
Rosa refused to give in and fought back against the attackers. She grabbed one of the teens by the braids and twisted them around her hand, pulling her to the ground. The other teens screamed at Rosa to let go, but she refused.
Eventually, Rosa let the teens go and they fled the subway station. Rosa sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Despite the frightening ordeal, Rosa said she forgives the teens. She said they are just teenagers acting foolish and that nobody is safe in New York City's subway system or on the streets these days.
The attack on Rosa is the latest in a string of crimes on the city's subway system. Just a day earlier, a 45-year-old man was shoved into an oncoming subway train in Manhattan. He suffered a head injury but was miraculously listed in stable condition.
Days earlier, police say an illegal immigrant from Guatemala set fire to and burned a woman to death on a subway train in Brooklyn.
The crimes come despite New York Governor Kathy Hochul touting the subway system as safe.

How many more stories like this have to happen before something is done to protect the vulnerable?
