Winter Storm Blair Prompts Airlines to Offer Travel Waivers for Affected Passengers

Airlines Offer Flexibility for Affected Passengers

As Winter Storm Blair looms, airlines are taking steps to minimize travel disruptions for passengers. Several airlines have announced weather-related travel waivers, allowing travelers to rebook their flights without incurring change fees.

Customers traveling to, through, or from 45 affected cities between January 4th and 6th can change their flights without incurring the usual change fee. Tickets must have been purchased before January 1st, and new flights must be between January 2nd and 9th. Passengers cannot change their origin or destination cities or upgrade their cabin.

Passengers traveling from January 3rd to 6th can rebook their travel to, through, or from 12 airports for free. Visit the airline's website for rebooking options.

Customers with reservations on flights across 14 U.S. airports that could be affected by the storm can alter their travel plans free of charge.

For Mid-Atlantic travel originally scheduled between January 5th and 6th, United is waiving most change fees for flights from nine affected airports. Tickets must have been purchased on or before January 2nd. New flights must depart between January 3rd and 13th between the same cities and in the same cabin originally booked. Additionally, for Central U.S. passengers with tickets on flights scheduled between January 4th and 6th across 10 airports, United is waiving change fees and fare differences for rebooked flights. Tickets must have been purchased before January 1st.

These waivers provide flexibility for travelers affected by Winter Storm Blair, allowing them to reschedule their flights without incurring additional costs. It is recommended to check with your specific airline for the most up-to-date information and rebooking options.

😠 Why are only specific airports included in the waiver? This feels discriminatory.

😠 Why can't we change our origin or destination cities? This makes rebooking inconvenient.

😠 This feels like a PR stunt to avoid bad press, not genuine care for passengers.

👎🏼 Airlines should automatically rebook passengers instead of making them jump through hoops.
