China Condemns US Report on Taiwan, Warns Against "Taiwan Independence" Forces

China has strongly condemned a recent Pentagon report on "Military and Security Developments Involving the PRC," accusing it of deliberately stirring up hostility and confrontation across the Taiwan Strait. The report claimed that the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) has the capability to "compel Taiwan to the negotiation table" and that Taiwan is developing asymmetric strategies to counter the PLA.

Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, stated at a press conference that the report constitutes gross interference in China's internal affairs and violates the provisions of the three China-US joint communiqués. He urged the US to abide by the one-China principle and stop hyping up questions related to Taiwan.

Chen also warned the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan that "relying on the US to seek independence" or "seeking independence by force" is a dead end. He emphasized that no one should underestimate China's determination and ability to safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The report's release comes amid heightened tensions between China and the US over Taiwan. China considers Taiwan a breakaway province and has vowed to reunify it with the mainland, by force if necessary. The US, on the other hand, maintains a policy of "strategic ambiguity" towards Taiwan, providing it with military support while stopping short of recognizing its independence.
