The United States' recent approval of military assistance and arms sales to Taiwan has drawn strong condemnation from China. The Chinese government views this move as a serious violation of the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, particularly the August 17 Communiqué of 1982. It also undermines China's sovereignty and security interests.
China considers the Taiwan question to be at the core of its core interests and the first red line that cannot be crossed in China-US relations. Providing arms to Taiwan in support of "Taiwan independence" is akin to playing with fire, and the United States will get burned. Using the Taiwan question to contain China is also doomed to fail.
China urges the United States to immediately cease arming Taiwan and halt any actions that jeopardize peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. China will take all necessary measures to resolutely defend its national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

Arming Taiwan sends a message that the US is willing to escalate conflicts instead of seeking peace.
