Walter Fletcher Extends Contract with Montreal Alouettes

The Montreal Alouettes have secured the services of running back Walter Fletcher for two more years, the CFL club announced on Tuesday. This extension comes after a successful 2024 season where Fletcher established himself as a key offensive weapon for the Alouettes.

In his first year as a full-time starter, Fletcher rushed for 764 yards and four touchdowns on 141 carries. He also proved to be a valuable receiving threat, adding 682 yards and three touchdowns on 71 receptions.

Fletcher's journey to Montreal began in 2022 when he was traded from the Edmonton Elks after spending one season with the team. The 28-year-old running back, originally from Cheverly, Maryland, has already achieved Grey Cup glory with the Alouettes in 2023.

Throughout his 49 career CFL games, Fletcher has accumulated impressive statistics, including 1,818 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 351 carries, and 1,388 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 145 receptions.

"Walter delivered the goods in his first season as a starter with us after waiting for his turn," said Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia in a press release. "Both on the ground and in the air, he is a threat to his opponents. He has unparalleled speed, and you never know what he's going to do on the field. We are happy that he is tied to our team for two more years."

In addition to Fletcher's extension, the Alouettes also signed American defensive back Tiawan Mullen to a two-year contract. The 24-year-old spent time with the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles in 2023.
