A Look at Potential Recalls and Team Composition
With the 2025 Champions Trophy fast approaching, Pakistan is gearing up to defend its title. Recent reports suggest that the team is considering recalling several key players who have been absent from recent squads.
Imam-ul-Haq, Shadab Khan, and Fakhar Zaman are all expected to make a comeback. Imam, a prolific opener, boasts an impressive average of 48.27 in ODIs. Shadab, a talented all-rounder, last played for Pakistan in the 2024 T20I World Cup. Fakhar, a veteran southpaw, has a wealth of experience with 82 ODI appearances.
The squad is likely to include seven batters, four fast bowlers, three spinners, and one wicketkeeper. Mohammad Rizwan is expected to be the sole wicketkeeper, while the pace attack will likely be led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf. Mohammad Hasnain is also in contention for the fourth seamer spot.
In the spin department, Shadab Khan is likely to return alongside mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed and young Sufyan Moqim.
The eight-team tournament will feature 15 matches across Pakistan and Dubai. The opening match will see Pakistan face New Zealand in Karachi on February 19, while the final will be played in Lahore on March 9, unless India qualifies, in which case the final will be moved to Dubai. Both the semi-finals and the final will have reserve days.
The highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan is scheduled for February 23 in Dubai. This match is sure to be a highlight of the tournament, as both teams will be eager to prove their dominance in the 50-over format.
