India Gears Up for a Packed 2025
2025 promises to be a year brimming with sporting action in India. From hockey and squash to boxing and badminton, the country will play host to a diverse array of major events, captivating sports enthusiasts across the nation.
The year kicks off with a flurry of activity in January. The Kho Kho World Cup (January 13-19) in New Delhi will see international teams vying for the coveted title. Badminton fans can look forward to the India Open (January 14-19), also in the capital. The Mumbai Marathon (January 19) will test the endurance of runners, while the Khelo India Winter Games (January 23-February 25) in Jammu and Kashmir will showcase the talent of young winter sports athletes. The National Games (January 28-February 14) in Uttarakhand will bring together the best athletes from across the country.
February brings excitement for tennis fans with the Davis Cup World Group 1 play-off in New Delhi (February 1-2). Four ATP Challenger tournaments – Chennai Open (February 3-9), Delhi Open (February 10-16), Pune Challenger (February 17-23), and Bengaluru Open (February 24-March 2) – will further enthrall the crowds. Hockey enthusiasts can look forward to the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Pro League matches (February 15-25) in Bhubaneswar.
Cricket fans are in for a treat with the Women's 50-over World Cup (August-September), the Indian Premier League (March-May), and the Women's Premier League (February 21-March 16). Bilateral series across all formats will also keep fans entertained throughout the year.
India will also host several prestigious events for the first time. The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Cup, the World Boxing Cup Final (November in New Delhi), and a World Athletics Continental Tour event (August 10 in Bhubaneswar) will bring international competition to Indian soil.
Other major events include the Squash World Cup (December 9-14 in Chennai), the World Para Athletics Championships (September 26-October 5 in New Delhi), and the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Junior Championships (October 6-19) in Guwahati. The Syed Modi India International badminton tournament (November 25-30 in Lucknow) and the Asian Team Table Tennis Championships (October 11-15) will also add to the sporting calendar.
The National Games, Khelo India Youth Games and Para Games (Bihar in April) and Khelo India Winter Games will provide a platform for domestic and grassroots athletes to showcase their talent.
