Gautam Adani Praises Chess Prodigy D Gukesh and India's Rising Chess Fame

In a recent meeting, Gautam Adani, the chairman of the Adani Group, had the opportunity to engage with the remarkable World Chess Champion D Gukesh and his supportive parents. Adani took to social media to share his admiration for Gukesh, highlighting how the young champion's achievements inspire a new generation of players. He expressed his honor in learning about Gukesh's victory and acknowledged the crucial role his parents, Dr. Rajinikanth and Dr. Padmavathi, played in his journey, noting their sacrifices that paved the way for his accomplishments.

At just 18 years old, Gukesh has already made a name for himself in the chess world, notably by defeating China's Ding Liren in a thrilling 14th game during the FIDE World Championship, which concluded in December. This victory secured Gukesh the title of the youngest world champion in history and marked a significant milestone as he became India's second world chess champion, following in the footsteps of Viswanathan Anand.

Earlier in April, Gukesh also impressed by winning the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament, earning the distinction of being the youngest candidate to challenge for the world title. Additionally, during the Chess Olympiad held in Budapest, both India’s men’s and women’s teams achieved unprecedented success, winning gold medals and contributing to a proud moment in Indian sports history.

Furthermore, Indian chess player Koneru Humpy recently clinched the FIDE Women’s World Rapid Championship title for the second time, showcasing her skills by narrowly defeating Indonesia's Irene Sukandar. Humpy's accomplishment adds to her impressive record and reinforces India's growing presence in the world of chess. In October, another promising Indian grandmaster, Arjun Erigaisi, surpassed the prestigious 2800 Elo rating mark, making him the youngest Indian to do so, which further exemplifies the bright future of Indian chess on the global stage.

While it's great to see Gukesh win, let's not forget how commercialized chess has become. It seems more about the spotlight than the game.

Let’s not forget that chess is a team effort too! Gukesh’s wins shouldn’t diminish the contributions of his team and coaches.

This report feels like an attempt to create a narrative around Gukesh as a savior of Indian chess, which is misleading.
