According to recent reports, 2024 has emerged as the warmest year on record for India since 1901. The average minimum temperature for the year was 0.90 degrees Celsius above the established long-term average. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, the Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), revealed this finding during a virtual press briefing, noting that the annual mean land surface air temperature for India was 0.65 degrees Celsius above the average recorded between 1991 and 2020.
This new temperature record has surpassed the previous high set in 2016, when the mean temperature had exceeded the normal by 0.54 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the European climate agency Copernicus corroborated the claim that 2024 stands as the warmest year globally, marking it as the first instance where average global temperatures were recorded at least 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
A review conducted by climate science groups World Weather Attribution and Climate Central highlighted that the world, in 2024, faced an alarming increase in extreme heat, experiencing an average rise of 41 days of dangerous heat compared to previous years.

It’s heartbreaking to see our planet suffer like this. We all need to make changes in our lives.

It's hard to take these claims seriously when so much of the data is speculative.

There's always been extreme weather. Why single out 2024? There are decades of records!

The focus should be on adapting rather than constantly blaming human behavior for every heat wave!

It’s all a hoax. Just look at the past! Temperatures have been much higher historically.

I doubt the credibility of these reports. How do we know they aren't manipulating data?

Let’s not panic over misleading statistics. We've survived hotter years before.

The science backed by these agencies is clear. It's time we listen to the experts.

Climate change activists are pushing their narrative too hard. Just let people live their lives!

If 2024 is warm, what about the past? This narrative only highlights selective data.

Why are we trusting the IMD and foreign agencies like Copernicus? They have agendas, too!

The media just wants clicks, so they dramatize everything. It's not as dire as they say.

These findings should motivate us to take action for our planet and future generations.
